Why do so many women go for heavy tanning when they become famous?

I like her natural look better (picture1). For those who don’t know her, she took part in a singing contest like Pop/American Idol and went far. She looked normal during those stages but now she is famous she has gone overboard with the tanning. Why do most women go overboard with makeovers when becoming famous?

They’re shallow, simple as really.
Quite sad considering its absolutely hideous and unnatural. How they happily walk into a tanning salon looking normal and walk out resembling a citrus fruit is beyond me.

There is a link between having a sun tan and wealth, or at least in the past having a tan implied success and wealth. Its a competitive thing with these women, they believe that the more orange they are, the more successful, wealthy and talented they seem to others.
I think you are right, who ever she is, she does look better pale and natural. In the second picture she looks years older.
